For majority of home owners, probably the number 1 dilemma would be choosing the material of the sofa; leather or fabric.
For fabric, using cheap cleaning solutions would generally remove most spills subject to the quality of the fabric itself. Hence leather is much better at handling spills.
Fabric accumulate dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens easily due to the material nature, whereas leather is hypoallergenic, a better choice for people with allergies.
Being a good conductor of heat, leather will feel warm after sitting on it for a while. Therefore in terms of comfort, fabric would be the better choice.
As fabric comes in many hues and prints, the sofa design allows for greater design possibilities as compared to leather sofa.
The nature of leather is more vulnerable to scratches and humidity as compared with fabric, making the former not pet friendly.
Generally, leather sofa will require leather care solution to prevent cracks. Ass for fabric sofa, vacuuming or steam cleaning it will be required to remove the accumulated dust.
The fading of fabric colour depends on the colour intensity, whereas leather will age over time, developing lines and even cracks.
